I am a native New Yorker from the South Bronx who spent my adolescence skipping class to wander around the Whitney. I first came to the Hudson Valley in 2018 as a wayward 19 year old, hungry for life outside of the city. I moved to Millerton to work as a prep cook at the Watershed Center and met buddhists, queer chicken farmers, and movement organizers. I’m forever grateful to everyone I met there who taught me to be intentional, patient, kind, and encouraged me to go back to school. In 2019, I lived part time in Millerton and part time in the Bronx while I finished my Associates at Hostos Community College. A short while after finishing my Associates I received a full scholarship to pursue Anthropology at Mount Holyoke College. While at Mount Holyoke, I studied abroad in Amman, Jordan, and wrote a short ethnography on contemporary Arab art institutions, worked with Mayday Space in Bushwick, Brooklyn and the Public Programs team at the Brooklyn Museum. After graduating from Mount Holyoke, I had the fortunate opportunity to work with the Regional Regranting team at the Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts.
As my time at the Warhol Foundation wrapped up I found myself wanting to be back in the Hudson Valley, and really wanted to be a part of the Wassaic Project team. I admired the nearly free access to the arts the Wassaic Project offers for the local community (especially with such a small team!). It’s thrilling to be the Development and Communications Assistant and help guide the narratives explaining how meaningful the Wassaic Project is. Come say hi when I’m gallery sitting on Saturdays!
