Ad Astra Per Aspera

2019 Summer Exhbition

Anna Cone, Leda Chapel, 2019

Our annual Summer Exhibition is back. Ad Astra Per Aspera features nearly 70 contemporary artists across all seven floors of Maxon Mills.

Our 2018 Summer Exhibition, Change of State, showcased art created during a time in which many people in our country have felt divided, angry, vindicated, or confused. This year, we’re going ad astra per aspera — “through hardships to the stars.” The show, as always, will open with a parade throughout Wassaic on our annual Community Day. Students in our summer camps will explore the mill and create work based on the exhibition. Artists in our Summer Residency will look for inspiration to take back to their studios in Luther Barn. Visitors to our Summer Festival will take in lectures throughout the mill from artists in the exhibition. And on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the summer, people like you will stop by and pass through, up, and ad astra.
