Honoring
Jean Cooney is the Vice President of Arts and Culture for the Times Square Alliance and Director of Times Square Arts, the public art program presenting work by contemporary artists in one of the world's most iconic urban places. Over the course of the program’s twelve year history, Times Square Arts has worked with hundreds of emerging and established artists across a diverse range of disciplines to engage the district's electronic billboards, public plazas, and vacant spaces with video work, installations, and performance.
Prior to her role at Times Square Arts, Jean spent seven years at the public arts non-profit Creative Time, primarily supporting major artist commissions. During her tenure there, Jean had the opportunity to work on some of Creative Time’s most celebrated public projects, including Nick Cave’s HEARD•NY in Grand Central Terminal, Kara Walker’s A Subtlety… at the former Domino Sugar factory, and Duke Riley’s Fly By Night at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts Administration from New York University, and a B.A. in International Relations from Boston University.
Molly Gochman, an artist and activist deeply engaged in social practice, focuses on activating spaces for profound collective experiences. Her practice encompasses a diverse range of mediums including photography, sound, installation, and sculpture. Through these mediums, she often challenges and subverts conventional material boundaries to foster interaction, play, exploration, and meaningful dialogue.
Molly frequently explores concepts encompassing human connection, environment, and community, rooted in the belief that life's experiences shape us. Guided by the concept that "life leathers us," her works not only aim to aestheticize but also reflect the passage of time through weather, wear, and change. Her practice continues to evolve with a desire to actively engage participants, inspire meaningful dialogues, find commonality, and discover shared human experiences.
Molly has exhibited her work at The Ukrainian Museum, New York; NYC Parks Art in the Parks; NADA House, New York; Lincoln Center, New York; Deborah Colton Gallery, Houston; Diverse Works, Houston; Chashama, New York; Sara Roney Gallery, Sydney; Grace Farms, New Canaan; Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston; Zilkha Hall, Houston; Elsewhere, Greensboro and other traditional and non-traditional exhibition spaces.
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Guilford College. Originally from Texas, Molly is currently based in New York.
Hiba Schahbaz was born in Karachi, Pakistan and lives in Brooklyn, NY. She works with paper, black tea, and water-based pigments as well as oil on linen. She depicts women’s bodies often referencing self-portraiture, creating a space for herself and other women to tell their stories and reclaim their histories. Since migrating to the United States, her practice has expanded from miniature painting to human-scale works.
Schahbaz trained in miniature painting at the National College of Arts, Lahore and received an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute. Her recent exhibitions include Summer of Dragons at Almine Rech London (2024), In New York Thinking of You at FLAG Art Foundation (2023), Love Songs at Almine Rech Paris (2023), Fire Figure Fantasy at ICA Miami (2022), Wonder Women at Jeffrey Deitch (2022), Nova at Half Gallery LA (2022), and In My Heart, a public art commission for Rockefeller Centre with Art Production Fund (2021).
She has been written about in Whitewall, Artforum, NY Mag, Forbes, The Huffington Post, Hyperallergic, Coveteur, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Art Critical amongst other publications. Schahbaz has been an artist resident at The Tang Museum. Mass MocA, StoneLeaf Retreat, The Wassaic Project, the Vermont Studio Center to name a few. She currently serves as a board member for Art Production Fund.
