2022 Holiday Party for Artists and Lovers

We’re throwing a party at The Invisible Dog for our artist alumni and NYC supporters! Since moving our annual Winter Benefit upstate, we’ve missed seeing our city friends, so this party is a chance for us—and you—to reunite with old Wassaic friends and flames. Tickets are $35, and include an open bar, heavy snacks (less than dinner, more than an appetizer) from Le Gamin, a DJ set from Azikiwe Mohammed (aka DJ Black Helmet), and commemorative pins!

We’re also honoring our first two Artist and Lover awardees at the event: Aisha Tandiwe Bell and Oshun Layne. Both are visionary culture-makers who have played an integral part in shaping the Wassaic Project over the past few years, and we can’t wait to celebrate them with all of you.

Only 200 tickets are available, so RSVP early! Spread the wooooord.

Inspired by the fragmentation of our multiple identities, Aisha Tandiwe-Bell’s practice is committed to creating myth & ritual through sculpture, performance, video, sound, drawing and installation. Bell received a NYFA in Performance Art/Multidisciplinary Works and her work was exhibited in the 2017 Venice Biennial. She’s exhibited internationally and has been awarded several artist residencies and fellowships.

Tandiwe Bell is a two-time family resident in Wassaic and was featured in our 2020 Summer Exhibition, Now, more than ever, and All Out / All In.

Oshun Layne is the Executive Director at Dashboard. Born and reared in Brooklyn, NYC, Layne brings multicultural and multidisciplinary art forms to diverse populations. Prior to Dashboard, Oshun was the Director of Galleries for Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation and Coordinator of Education Volunteers at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Oshun is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Urban Policy and Planning with an emphasis on Non-Profit Management at Hunter College.

Since 2017, Layne has worked with us as a Consulting Curator to cultivate fully-funded residency and exhibition opportunities for artists of color.

Featuring

Open bar and heavy snacks

Delicious not-quite-dinner but more-than-appetizer snacks from Le Gamin plus an open bar.

DJ Black Helmet

Azikiwe Mohammed, aka DJ Black Helmet, has been DJ'ing in and around New York since 2005. His series Your Boy Black Helmet journeys through genres, words, and continents, focusing mostly on jams that are righteous and ready for wave surfing, for the crates are bountiful and we all should partake in the eternal harvest.

Pins!

Useful at the party, appropriately goofy out of context. (Artists, don’t worry: we’re making extra lover pins to take home, too.)
