Programming Assistant

The Wassaic Project seeks a full-time Programming Assistant. We are seeking a dynamic and professional team member to work in a collaborative and creative office alongside our Director of Artistic Programming, Programming Coordinator, and other Wassaic Project staff. The Programming Assistant will help assist with all of our exhibitions, public programs, special events, as well as help facilitate and support our year-round artist residency program. 

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional organizer with experience in the arts who has an awesome rapport with their co-workers. They will be an enthusiastic team player who is not afraid to get their hands dirty. Experience in exhibitions and/or programming, and those who are also visual and/or performing artists encouraged. We expect the Wassaic Project’s programming to continue to grow in the next few years and we are looking for a dynamic individual to help us produce successful programming and increase attendance and support for our artists.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with our year-round artist residency program.
  • Assisting with facilities projects, including repainting artists’ studios in between residencies, getting residency houses in order between sessions, etc.
  • Coordinating agreements for our artists-in-residence and exhibition artists.
  • Helping install and maintain major exhibitions in Maxon Mills, including painting walls, cleaning, hanging artwork, and assisting exhibition artists with the installation of their work.
  • Drafting our monthly alumni newsletter/gazette.
  • Assisting in coordinating our studio visits program, as well as in-person and virtual info sessions for our annual open calls.
  • Assisting with event coordination, set-up and working the day-of for “all hands on deck” events including: our annual Haunted Mill in October, two major exhibition opening and closing receptions, Upstate Art Weekend in July, our summer and winter benefits, among other events. 
  • Welcoming visitors to the Wassaic Project at the front gallery desk on Sundays — following front desk protocols, communicate with visitors, process sales — three quarters per year.
  • Submitting payment requests and receipts to our finance team.

Our expectation is that this position will evolve over time with growing responsibilities. We are a collaborative team and a small staff who work together to solve challenges and staff events.

Skills:

  • Easy to work with, a good attitude, and a team player.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, website management, and email marketing tools (such as Mailchimp).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities. 
  • Passion for the arts and community engagement.
  • Experience in visual arts or cultural programming is a plus.
  • Comfortable using G Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office
  • Driver’s license and regular access to a car is a must.

Details:

Full time in Wassaic 40hrs/week, Sunday through Thursday

Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000 to $50,000, depending on experience or $33,000 plus housing (private room in a shared house with additional Wassaic Project staff members). Housing includes all utilities: heat, water, electricity, wifi.
