Film at Wassaic
2015 Festival Film Program
RSVP NOW FOR FILM SCREENINGS – FREE – LIMITED SEATING
The main priorities of our Wassaic Film Program are to promote the free exchange of ideas between filmmakers and audiences, to give our community access to exciting new voices in independent cinema and to support and inspire emerging talent.
I’m particularly proud of our 2015 Summer Film Lineup. It includes more feature films, a Guest Conversation with celebrated Independent producer Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry, Kids, Velvet Goldmine, Still Alice…), two short film programs specially-curated for us by Jason Sondhi (Vimeo Staff Picks, Short of the Week), more filmmaker Q&A’s, two nights of late-night outdoor movie screenings under the stars and, new to the program this year, a first-of-its-kind “Film Workshop.”
My favorite part of programming at Wassaic is engaging with our highly creative audiences. I look forward to seeing you all at the festival.
— Liliana Greenfield-Sanders, Director of Film Programming

In the twenty years since Christine Vachon co-created KILLER FILMS with Pamela Koffler, she has produced over 65 of the most important independent films in American cinema. Some examples include: Happiness, Kids, Boy’s Don’t Cry, Far From Heaven, Still Alice, Velvet Goldmine, I’m Not There and so many others…
On Saturday, August 1st, Vachon will visit our Wassaic Summer Festival to screen SAFE, starring Julianne Moore – one of Killer films’ first projects and Todd Haynes’ second feature film (Vachon and Haynes’ collaboration started at Brown University in the mid-1980s and lasts through today. Their newest film Carol won best actress at Cannes and will be released later this year.)
Following the screening, DAVID KAPLAN (producer – It Follows, Obvious Child, Short Term 12) will lead Christine Vachon in a discussion about her career, the past and future of independent cinema, and give our audience a chance to ask questions. Seating is limited. RSVP in advance to attend.
For the second year in a row, Wassaic Film is teaming up with Jason Sondhi of Vimeo Staff Picks and Short Of The Week to bring us two short film programs, hand-selected for our audiences from the best short films around the world.
Short Film screenings will take place on Friday night outdoors and Saturday morning in the Cattle Auction Ring. Jason Sondhi will introduce Friday night’s screening and will be on hand to conduct a Q&A with attending filmmakers on Saturday.
